4 Tips on Ways to Organize Your Storage

Now that you’ve effectively decluttered your home or office by moving items into storage, you can also organize the storage unit for easy access to all your belongings. This can be especially helpful when storing things like bikes that would be a pain to drag out from the back of the storage unit every summer. For tips on our to better organize your storage inventory, check them out below!

Transparency: Using clear bins in the storage unit makes it easy to see where everything is located. Especially if you divide your belongings into categories and put them each into separate bins. You won’t have to remove the lid off of each one to find what you’re looking for and they’re sometimes more durable than cardboard boxes.

Weight Distribution: Storing items throughout your unit by weight will make your life so much easier when trying to navigate within the storage unit. For example, it might be easier to have all your heavier items, such as furniture, placed in the back of the unit, because it’s simpler to move lighter items out of the way if you need to reach a heavier item than the other way around.

Accessibility: Items that you think you may need to access more often should be placed near the front. This includes pretty much all seasonal items as well as office related items that you feel you may need more frequently. This helps to avoid digging through your entire unit to find what you’re looking for. Labeling boxes can also help prevent confusion on where specific items may be.

Stacking: If possible, stacking boxes or bins will create more space to walk through the unit or even to store more items. Stacks can be categorized as well, so each column is filled with similar items!

Overall, it’s not necessary to organize your storage unit, especially if you’re only storing your items for a short period of time. However, organizing will make your storage experience much more simple, if you ever need to go back in and look for something.
